Then Jesus got into the boat and his disciples followed him. Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Lord, save us! We're going to drown!" He replied, "You of little faith, why are you so afraid?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. The men were amazed and asked, "What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him?" (8:23-27)
Good morning! You can identify with this story, can't you? And you may not even like to fish or be in a boat. But we all know about those "life storms" that come up without warning—the big "C" word, or "D" word, or "L" word. Cancer, Divorce, being Let Go (or fired), or the "A" word, as in the phone call: "Your child was in an accident...you better come quickly, it looks to be very serious."
We've been there, maybe you've been there; or maybe you're there right now. Maybe your "storm" has a different name. But the waves are sweeping over the boat, nonetheless.
I'm praying right now that you will be able to sense/experience Jesus getting up and rebuking the winds and the waves, rebuking all those forces of fear and chaos and concern, and that for you (and yours) it will be "completely calm." Be still, Be still, Be still, and Know that He is God! Amen.
